Maybe you have worked on it in the past but it didn't sound that great so you just gave up.
The bowing to this G Major Prelude can be very challenging, so it makes sense that you might be having trouble finding and maintaining core within the phrases.
Lots of cellists are not satisfied with their playing of this prelude, so don't worry, because you are not alone!
In this camp Cello Guru Marcie Brown will define and explore the many difficulties that arise with the playing of this prelude. We will work through bowings, bow distribution and string crossings for fluid and musical phrasing, find creative pitch, and help you to choose your own unique and expressive rendition of this lovely music.
This class is for anyone interested in getting into the basics of the Bach First Prelude on their cello. It's best suited for intermediate level players that have some knowledge of the the first four positions on the cello. That being said, students of all levels are invited. Beginners can get started, and those with more technique can go deeper into their study.
We will be working on bow mapping so that you never run out of bow and so that you don't sound scratchy, tinny or choked. Yesss!.
We will be studying the figure 8 bow technique to make smooth, clean and precise bow changes for lovely musical lines. Yesss!
We will be working on even and musical phrasings as we move from string to string. Yesss!

This is an online event on zoom.
Classes daily for three days exploring the technical and musical aspects of the Bach G Major Prelude. You may be playing along but you will not be heard for these weekday classes. Phew!
As a part of the series you will get the Cello Guru student friendly PDF of the Prelude to the Bach Suite#1 in G Major. Let's go!
As we study Bach we will discuss and take into account the factors of Bach's life and also the common musical practices in the time period in which he lived in order to make musical decisions about how to execute his music. Who doesn't love the study of JS Bach?
-How to practice and produce beautiful phrasings on the First Bach Prelude
-How to produce clean musical lines through coordinating the left hand with the right
-How to find confidence in your playing so that you are ready to share your expressive rendition of this composition with friends and family.
Finally!
"I’m an experienced but good amateur cellist… I just finished my first series of classes with Marcie and what a personally rewarding result! Her very personable passion and style are an inspiration and propellant for pursuing new playing milestones.
I never thought of playing any portion of the Bach Suites....and whenever I heard them I 'knew' they were above my capability. The Cello Guru showed me I was wrong! "
-Lamarr A.; Palmer, Alaska
"If you would have told me three months ago that I would be playing the entire first Bach Suite on my cello, I would have said no way. But here we are..."
-Constance B.; Marietta, Oh
