Two ways to work with me:

The Crash Course in Cello and Total Cello Immersion

Program #1: The Crash Course in Cello

CRASH COURSE IN CELLO

One month. One piece. Four private lessons with me, 25 minutes each. Plus two supplementary videos you work through on your own time — both focused on the specific skills your piece demands.

You pick a piece from my list of twelve.

We go deep on it together for one month.

Not skimming the surface. Not jumping around.

One piece, all the way in, for thirty days.

By the end of the month you know that piece at a level you have never known a piece before. And the skills you build... smooth bow arm, good pitch, accurate shifting, legato phrasing, beautiful vibrato and a soulful sound...those skills transfer over into  everything else you play.

TWELVE PIECES TO CHOOSE FROM:

  1. French Folk Song — smooth bow arm, consistent hand shape, good pitch
  2. Long Long Ago and Variations — consistent hand shape, good pitch, fluid bow arm, controlled string crossings
  3. Bach Gavotte in C Minor — the most soulful of all the options, mid-range core of the cello, smooth bow arm, left hand extensions and soulful sound
  4. Lully Gavotte — legato versus Baroque bow strokes, fast scale work
  5. La Cinquantaine — positions 1-4, trill work, how to create a repeating theme that breaks hearts
  6. Tchaikovsky Chanson Triste — tenor clef, conscious vibrato, smooth legato phrasing and shaping of a lovely melody
  7. Arioso by Bach — the most beautiful Bach composition ever written, beautiful vibrato, flowing musical lines, challenging shifts
  8. The Swan — the most beautiful cello piece ever written, with legato bowing challenges,  singing phrases, smooth shifting, beautiful vibrato and soulful sound
  9. Eccles Sonata — Baroque bow strokes, figure 8 legato bowing, beautiful conscious vibrato, tenor clef, and speed (Largo and Allegro)
  10. Bach Prelude in G Major — bow distribution, string crossings, arpeggios, pitch against open strings and drones, barriolage
  11. Celtic: Road to Lisdoonvarna / Ashokan Farewell / Danny Boy — three options  Pick one. We work the music theory for cello 101 with a basic chord chart to start to find some freedom in your playing
  12. Galamian Scale Method — the most difficult and valuable study option on this list, scales in rhythms, understand your key at a completely new level, become a better cellist across every piece you play

Not sure which piece is right for you?

We figure that out together on your Play Better Cello Call.

Program #2: Total Cello Immersion

The 6 Month Cello Mentorship Program

Six months.

Small group.

Weekly group coaching.

Monthly private session.

Concerts.

Guest speakers.

A community of cellists who show up every single week and want the same thing you want.

TCI is capped at a small number of students because the community is the point. Typically our TCI classes are 3-5 students playing at similar levels.

Every week you bring your piece and you play it out loud — for me and for your fellow students. Every week somebody hears you. Every week you get coached. Every week you get better at playing in front of other people.

That last part is the thing most adult cellists have never experienced.

Practicing alone makes you better in private. Playing for someone every single week makes you better in public. Those are two completely different skills. TCI builds both at the same time.

Here is how it works:

Every class starts with thirty minutes together — scales, arpeggios, and monthly materials that we all work on as a group with me as the leader. You hear me play and you play along on mute.

This is your technical foundation.

This is where you stop guessing and start understanding.

Then each student plays individually.

I coach you on your piece — the musical decisions, the technical challenges, the specific things that are holding you back. Your fellow students hear you. And you hear them.

That is where a surprising amount of growth happens — because when you are listening to someone else play you are not worrying about yourself. You are just hearing the music and the coaching. And absorbing the gold.

Week after week. For six months.

WHAT IS INCLUDED:

  • Weekly group coaching class — thirty minutes of group technical work followed by individual playing and coaching. I hear you. Every single week.
  • Monthly private session with me — just you, your pieces, your technique, your specific challenges
  • Quarterly student performances — you play for each other in a real performance setting, low stakes, high support
  • Guest speakers from the musical world — performers, teachers, musicians who bring their expertise into your living room
  • A private Facebook group — your TCI community between classes, questions, celebrations, the river of misery and the climb back out
  • An extensive online instructional video and materials course — a vault of everything, all repertoire lessons, past classes, mindset, improv, reference materials — available to you for the full six months of your program
  • Six months of being taken seriously as a cellist. I have high standards. I will push you. And I can see where you are going before you even know you can get there.

WHO TCI IS FOR:

  • You are done practicing alone.
  • You want to play in front of people and actually feel good about it.
  • You want a community of cellists who know your name and care whether you show up.
  • You want someone coaching you every single week, not once in a while.
  • You are ready to make a real commitment to your cello life and you want the structure and the people around you to make that commitment stick.
  • You know that you want to call yourself a cellist. Because you are. And this program will get you to believe it.

New intermediate level TCI class starts July 2026.

New beginner level TCI class starts August 2026.

which program is right for you?

Crash Course if:

CRASH COURSE if:

  • You want to start with a one month commitment and see how it feels to work with me privately
  • You have one specific piece or one specific problem you want to crack open
  • You are newer to serious study or returning after time away
  • You want focused private attention before committing to a longer program

TOTAL CELLO IMMERSION if:

  • You are done practicing alone and ready to play for people
  • You want a community of cellists around you every single week
  • You know you need consistency and accountability over time, not just a one month push
  • You want to become the cellist who shows up and plays — for anyone, anywhere, anytime

How One leads to the other:

Many of my students start with Crash Course.

They spend one month going deep on a piece with me privately.

They feel what it is like to be taken seriously and coached at a high level.

And then they want more — more consistency, more community, more of that feeling every single week.

That is when TCI becomes the obvious next step.

Some students come straight to TCI because they already know what they need.

They have been practicing alone long enough.

They do not need another month alone — they need a community and a weekly commitment. They come straight in and they do not look back.

Both paths work.

The question is where you are right now and what you are ready for.

Either way the first step is the same:

BOOK A PLAY BETTER CELLO CALL

You play for me. I listen. We talk about where you are as a cellist, where you want to go, and what is actually possible for you.

Most cellists have never had that conversation with anyone. They have never had someone really listen and say — yes, this is possible for you, and here is exactly how we get there.

That is what this call is.

At the end of the call you will know exactly which path is right for you — Crash Course, Total Cello Immersion, or something else entirely.

No pressure.

Just clarity.

Students Talk About TCI:

Patricia S. is now playing solo cello gigs!

Here's what Patricia S. recently said:

"Marcie has coached me from a wanna-be-cellist to someone with the confidence to accept solo cello gigs! It takes a lot of work but it IS possible. PLEASE if you are interested in committing to your cello journey, wherever you are, get in contact with Marcie and check out the many different learning programs she has.

You will not be disappointed."

April is feeling confident and jamming in groups!

Here's what April M. recently said:

"For years, I couldn’t get a teacher to work with me because I was constantly on the road with my work in the film industry. But Marcie said, “I got you,” and took me on anyway. Truthfully, I don’t think she fully realized what she was signing up for — but she stuck with me through all of it. And continues to do so.

Last night, it all came together. I felt confident. I had no trouble reading the chord chart, and no fear playing in front of people. And the best part? Someone came up to me and said: “I’ve never jammed with a cello before — and it’s amazing.”

Thank you, Marcie, for sticking with me

and being the amazing instructor that you are. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
